Validating of the Obsession with the COVID-19 scale and its relationship with fear of Corona

Abstract Aims: The spread of Covid-19 around the world has challenged public health and has had a variety of psychological consequences. This study endeavored to conduct a preliminary study of the psychometric properties of the obsession with the COVID-19 scale. Methods: As a descriptive-correlational study and to validate the above scale, 386 people over the age of 18 responded to the questionnaires online using the purposive sampling method. To collect data, obsession with the COVID-19 scale after translation into Persian and the fear of the Covid-19 scale were used. The gathered data were analyzed through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis convergence and Construct validity, and internal consistency, and split-half reliability coefficient. Results: Exploratory factor analysis identified all four items as one factor. Also, the results of the confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the construction. The convergent validity of the scale with fear of Covid-19 showed a correlation value of 0.25 (p <0.01). Conclusion: Based on these results, the obsession with the COVID-19 scale can be used as a suitable measurement tool in relevant research.
